Engine Rebuild

I began work at the shipyard in Sturgeon Bay Monday morning. I was pleasantly surprised to see several familiar faces. Mike, pictured above, was on the m/v Blough with me during November and December. We are working to rebuild a Colt-Pielstick V-18 diesel, the block can be seen in the background. The engine has been torn apart and everyone on the crew is cleaning and inspecting all aspects and facets of the beast. Today I worked on cylinder liners, removing old gaskets and carbon build up. More pictures later….

Rockbridge - Virginia

I’ve spent the last few days in Virginia at a retreat center. I’ve been upgrading computers, aligning sound systems and enjoying time with friends. It’s beautiful here. Next stop: Winter Work in Sturgeon Bay.

LA to SD

Last weekend I enjoyed the exhibits at the Maritime Museum in sunny Los Angeles. This weekend I was in South Dakota with the farm families who adopted me over the summer. They’ve taugh me much about farming, friendship and enjoying life. This weekend was no different. We laughed, ate good food and recalled the summer that the city boy came to work on the farm. South Dakota has snow, ice and blowing snow - but I hardly noticed it. There is plenty of warmth shared by the kind and generous people there.
