Calves and Kitty

A nudge from Mom to the first calf of the season
Amidst snowy pastures and icy fields, the first calf of the season was born this morning.  An early arrival, she is about three weeks ahead of schedule.  We are doing all we can to make sure “Snowflake” is healthy without interfering with the natural mother/daughter process.  Mom has been very patient with us as we investigate our new arrival.  Late this afternoon, we discovered Snowflake caught under a downed tree limb, and moved her from the snowy, hazardous spot to a location that was dry and in the warmth of direct sunlight.  Mom came running toward us with an emphatic “Moo!” which sounded like, “I turn my back for two minutes and you are bothering my kid again.”  Some cows get mean, but she seemed to understand we were trying to help.

Hello Kitty on roof of the Freightliner
The semi was due for a wheel alignment this week.  While in the warmth of the shop, I asked the mechanics if I could put a sticker on the roof.  They agreed, and one guy even held the ladder as I wiped the corn dust away and carefully applied a large, pink “Hello Kitty” to the glossy, black steel.  Kitty cannot be seen by the general public, due to where she is placed.  However, when we pull into the grain terminal, she greets the attendants in the scale house who look down and take grain samples.  She causes smiles and keeps attitudes on the lighter side.

Absurd:  Ridiculously unreasonable, unsound or incongruous.  Not rational, lacking order
.

Life is short.  We can’t expect it to make sense all of the time.
