His Name is Mac

After two weeks, Mac has grown accustomed to the farm.  He’s more playful than ever, and is doing his best to become king of the castle.  He has a confident strut and definitely feels at home.

This corn stalk is one of his newest toys.

He still likes my boots - but would rather attack than snuggle.

snuggle

However, he still likes snuggle time - which is cute beyond words.

Puppy

Puppies are cute.  This is a well known fact, it’s not news.  However, the experience of having a puppy follow you around, play by dragging a piece of rope, and bounce about when he sees you, adds greater meaning to the definition of cute.

While I was working in the shop, he nuzzled up to my boots.

I did some wiring in the silage truck, and he was everywhere I needed to be.

What a cute little guy.

He’s most at ease while being held.  This is not the ideal way to make it through the work day, but this was his first time away from mom and the other pups, so I was okay with his need for contact.

Later, I set him on the workbench and he fell sound asleep.  Wow.  That’s cute.

Cutter

The first task for a combine is to cut the crop.  This is accomplished by the cutter on the front of the machine.  The cutter needed to be replaced, and it was a job that I volunteered to do.  I’ve always preferred to work alone, and the boss was fine with me taking on this project as a solo effort.

The bar with the teeth is on the floor behind me, it’s 30 feet long.  It’s being replaced with a brand new, shiny and sharp cutter bar.  I’m also replacing the cutter guards, new ones are glossy and black.

sunset

There were a couple of times that I could have used a helping hand, and the forklift obliged nicely.  As the sun touched the horizon, a chorus of crickets joined Allison Krauss as her music spun around in the cd player.  It was a fun project, I’m glad I was able to get it all put together again.  How did I do?  Well, when we pull into the field of soybeans to begin the harvest, we’ll find out just how it works.  My report card is forthcoming….
